You'd think this would be self-evident. You'd also be wrong. I have never been more ashamed of my country than during these "debates".

Inspired, stylistically speaking, by the Banners Across America campaign started by The National Religious Campaign Against Torture. However, the stamp itself is 100% my own work.

While I am what the pundits refer to as a "person of faith" (though my faith is not a mainstream American one), I see this message as a universal one, that everyone--regardless of their thoughts on God or an afterlife--can agree on.

I totally agree with this statement, not for religious motives, though, but I think don't support torture anyway.
:iconstreet-howitzer:
And that's completely fine. :) The stamp's style was inspired by the NRCAT, but people don't have to be religiously motivated to agree. I'm glad that you do.

*leave out "think"

Btw, what religion do you belong to, if I may ask? You're not forced to tell it if you don't want to, of course.
Myself, I'm a deist, so I do believe in a higher force and I'm not afraid to admit it^.^
:iconstreet-howitzer:
Oh, it's fine. I normally don't discuss it unless I'm asked, especially on the Internet. I'm a Mahayana Buddhist.

Aw, that's awesome. :D I respect how deists do a great job of reconciling faith and reason.

Yeah I always thought that was kind of obvious but I guess it's not :P

We don't torture.....so stop being "ashamed". The United States of America is whats right with the world. You want to be upset, be upset about the people being beheaded on the internet by the enemy.

The United States designated simulated drowning/waterboarding as torture as recently as the Vietnam War. When one soldier during the War was caught waterboarding someone, he was thrown out of the Army for it. Aside from that, other honorable groups that have waterboarded their enemies for information include the Dutch East India Trading Company, the Nazis, Imperial Japan during World War II, the Spanish Inquisition, the French during the Algerian War, Pinochet's regime, and the Khmer Rouge.

You may call something like that an interrogative technique. I call nearly drowning someone torture.

I'm a bit more complicated than you. I can both condemn innocent civilians being tortured and killed by terrorists, AND innocent civilians being tortured and killed by American soldiers. The stamp doesn't say "torture is wrong, unless you're not american", you know.

:iconjwils876:
you say "innocent civilians being tortured and killed by American soldiers." I was a soldier for eight years and can tell you that don't happen, so get your head out of your ass. "Innocent" people don't get collected off battle fields. You have no idea what your talking about, so just shut up please.

Ah, I see. You've decided to completely ignore all of my points, latch onto a single word I used, and are using that to dismiss everything I said. You probably think that's clever.

If coming on to my deviation, insulting me, ignoring what I say, and then telling me to "shut up" on my own turf are what it takes to help you feel better, that's fine. In fact, it's even fine that you don't think torture is wrong when it's perpetrated by Americans; and that you conveniently ignore the fact that the overwhelming majority of people "collected off battle fields" and thrown in prison to be tortured by Americans were released without being put on trial (most people, you see, take that as a sign that there was no evidence to support any claims of guilt). I think that view is monstrous, but I won't deny you the right to think it.

Thank you for your service.
